Course

Social Equity in Action

Ended Nov 18, 2019

Full course description

This course is an exploration of social equity and identity groups - foundational concepts that are key to understanding privilege and justice. Social equity allows us to envision a world where all people regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, religion, or sexual orientation are afforded equal opportunity and full access to resources that enable us all to have a high quality of life - rooted in fairness, justice, and dignity.

In an ideal world, a sense of equity would be embedded in how we engage with one another. However, as with any complex diverse system, there are challenges and we must be mindful about creating fairness. This requires having a willingness to explore those thoughts, feelings and actions that might create barriers for others, especially those who are different from us.

If you are someone that believes in justice, you know that we live in a world where some get more than they deserve and need, and others get less. We need more justice in this world, and that means understanding why some get more and some get less, and then recognizing your opportunity to make a real difference. This is what we explore in this course.
